The goal of our program is ambitious: to contribute to the reduction in HIV incidence among 10 to 24-year-olds in participating PEPFAR countries using a unique menu of behavior change communication tools.

It all starts with our unique menu of behavior change communication programs and tools, which are designed to address prevention issues in a way that both builds on best practices and is tailored to the needs of each participating country. This allows each country’s programs to achieve their goals with a distinct combination of interventions which address their specific needs.

How do we get there? By implementing programs that leverage the unique capabilities of our partners, and that promote innovative approaches to prevention.

The programs apply the following principles:

  • Participation – Meaningfully engage young people in all aspects of program design, development, implementation, and evaluation, thereby promoting youth participation and ownership
  • Saturation – Reach the same youth in multiple settings with a defined set of messages, information, and services.
  • Integration - Use a holistic approach to reach and serve youth by integrating and connecting HIV prevention interventions to offer a range of programs and services that meet the diverse needs of various youth segments, including improving access to economic opportunities for youth
  • Coordination & Distribution – Increase availability of and access to quality, client-centered prevention services in target countries and communities, by offering services on-site or through referrals that address the health, education, training, employment, recreational and information needs of youth
  • Connection – Foster an enabling environment for behavior change that respects the rights of young people and empowers them to lead safe and healthy lives
